A Little Bit of Beijing is a hybrid, a mixture of anything. It is a sophisticated illustrated book, a convenient travel guide, a photography collection with unique perspectives, and a set of accurate technical drawings. It is a publication made with patience, time, fineness, devotion, high-quality images, with the aim to document the most interesting spots in Beijing. It is a collection of realistic portraits of Beijing, depicted with seriousness and emotions.

It rejects promotions on ¡§must-buy¡¨ or ¡§must-try¡¨ as all the other travel guides include, but advocates specific and independent urban wander. It discards romantic and warm virtual world fabricated in most illustrated books, but encourages realistic observations on the site. It abandons digital camera, single lens relax and splendid colors, but returns to films, dark room, and a black and white imagery world. It stays away from design concepts by architects and planners, but focuses on grass-roots buildings and natural development of the city.

The first issue of A Little Bit of Beijing documents the areas of San Li Tun and 798 in Beijing. Both of them emerged in recent years as the highlights of the city. Two panoramic axonometric projections reveal the urban space in San Li Tun and 798 without leaving any hidden details. They are like 3D maps as complex as labyrinths and give the reader a completely new perspective to get lost in those familiar yet strange urban corners. 10 color illustrations for 10 carefully selected sites are characterized with overlooking angles, different architectural styles, and Sempe-style figures spreading all over the illustrations. But the color schemes and lines are obviously influenced by OMA's sketches from their early years. Along with the photography, axonometric projections, and brief comments extracted from the Internet for each location, the reader's curiosity over these places will be roused by traversing different representational media. Black and white photos running through the whole book have catched the most inviting moments in San Li Tun and 798, as a mood or, like what Daido Moriyama described, as a short story. Furthermore, 3 articles, Stage ¡V from San Li Tun to 798, Start from Documentation, and Memories of My Body, enrich the content of the book with some academic speculations by introducing the inspirations from Suprematism and Society of the Spectacle, and the discussion on the death and life of cities.

A Little Bit of Beijing is a subversive experiment with the attempt to secularize academic theories, to refine the meaning of travel, to make illustration closer to the reality, to turn technical drawings into art, to encourage spontaneous photography, and to cast new light on grass roots.

Part of the content in A Little Bit of Beijing was selected as one of Top 20 Reasons To Be In China by Wallpaper* November 2011 Issue.

SQY-T Designer Li Han X Atelier 11 Release 798

798 is a new addition to the Urbanized Landscape Drawing Series by SQY-T designer, Beijing-Based architect Li Han. Completed with Li's colleagues in Atelier 11, 798 is an extension of Li's previous piece San Li Tun. The drawing takes an engineering style in terms of visual language, but what it tries to express in the content is not limited to the architecture itself in the central area of 798, but also includes the urban life in and outside the architecture. The purpose of such documentation is to reflect the complexity and diversity of urban life through an objective recording process without missing the smallest details, and to indicate a cleverer strategy to protect the old architecture and district. As being preserved and protected, the old neighborhoods obtained a true sense of contemporary but not pretentious nostalgia. Please visit Drawings to browse all the pieces from this series.

i n ss!w !

In the movie "Love in a Puff", a love story developed from the ban on smoking indoors in Hong Kong, the protagonists Cherie and Jimmy always like to chat over mobile messages. One day Cherie receives a message from Jimmy,"i n ss!w !", which reads like corrupted characters. But actually if she turns the cell phone upside down, she will decode the message as "i miss u !". Such a heart-warming detail inspires us to create this Cell Phone tee. When others look at you, the writings in the screen of the phone read the same as the corrupted characters Cherie saw first. Only when you, the wearer, look downwards to your chest, you would read out the original meaning. It is a tee to be given to the one you care and miss. Your message is ingeniously hidden from anyone else but the one who it is actually for.
